The third keynote for the upcoming European Hip Hop Studies Conference is the one and only Prof. Dr. H. Samy Alim. The leading Hip Hop scholar will speak about Hip Hop activism during a keynote panel session connected to a screening of “In the Hour of Chaos”, the 2024 Chuck D documentary he co-directed.

H. Samy Alim is the David O. Sears Presidential Endowed Chair in the Social Sciences and Professor of Anthropology at UCLA. For 25+ years, his work has traced Hip Hop’s global impact — from the U.S. to South Africa — centering artists as cultural theorists and change-makers. He’s authored or edited countless books, co-teaches Hip Hop with Chuck D, and co-leads the UCLA Hip Hop Initiative, bridging scholarship, culture, and community to reimagine education, activism, and global futures.
