The second keynote for the upcoming European Hip Hop Studies Conference is none other than Dr. Joan Morgan. The renowned author, scholar and Hip Hop journalist will speak about Hip Hop activism during a keynote panel session connected to a screening of “In the Hour of Chaos”, the 2024 Chuck D documentary that Morgan is featured in.

Joan Morgan — born in Jamaica and raised in New York City — is widely regarded for coining the term ‘Hip Hop feminism’ in her groundbreaking book “When Chickenheads Come Home to Roost”. Regarded internationally as an expert on the topics of Hip Hop, the Caribbean, and gender, Morgan has made numerous media appearances, for instance on MTV, CNN, The Breakfast Club and Netflix. Currently, she’s the director of the Center for Black Visual Culture at the NYU Institute of African American Affairs.
