Floris Bosscher
University of Cambridge
Floris is a PhD candidate in anthropology of religion at the University of Cambridge. His project is an ethnographic exploration of the role of religion, both Islam and Christianity, in (Dutch) street culture. He hopes to gain insight in how people negotiate competing identities without 'solving' the tensions between them. This builds on his MPhil research, in which he studied the role of Islam among Dutch-language 'street' rappers and the conflicts they experience. He is driven to deconstruct academic understandings of religion to incorporate the evocative and creative ways in which people have always been religious.
