Friederike Frost

FRIEDERIKE FROST is a dance, hip hop, and sport scholar completing her doctorate on Breaking at the Institute for Dance and Movement Culture at the German Sport University Cologne. A breaker herself, she researches the transnational flows and cultural influences of Breaking movements and has published book chapters and articles about gender negotiations, belonging, call and response, and Breaking pedagogy. As a freelance dancer and choreographer, she creates performance projects and dance theater with her dance company Cie Chara, and judges international Breaking competitions such as the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Frost is a founding member of the European Hip Hop Studies Network, a member of artistic and scientific committees for hip hop conferences and cultural ministries, and a lecturer at universities. She created the Instagram account @hiphopstudysunday, which provides access to hip hop studies and dance literature for dancers, students, and scholars.
