Marianna Krumrine is a Ph.D. candidate in Cultural Anthropology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Her dissertation research focuses on women and gender-nonconforming rappers in France who navigate gendered and racialized boundaries of belonging within Europe’s cultural field. Working at the intersection of anthropology, music, gender and performance studies, and cultural policy, her ethnographic and collaborative fieldwork examines how artists engage with institutional frameworks and creative practices to reshape access, recognition, and belonging. Her previous projects have explored the music of the French #MeToo movement and popular music and cultural heritage policy in Italy.
