Lizzie Bowes is a second year PhD student at the University of Bristol. Her project considers longer-form rap albums with politically conscious overtones as works of Black-British autofiction. She is interested in the ways in which UK rap artists craft narratives about themselves, their cultures and communities, and the creative licence they allow themselves when telling their stories. Elsewhere, she is a Research Associate at the Black Music Research Unit, which has recently co-curated the first national exhibition of Black-British Music in collaboration with the British Library.
