H. Samy Alim is the David O. Sears Presidential Endowed Chair in the Social Sciences and Professor of Anthropology at UCLA. For 25+ years, his work has traced Hip Hop’s global impact — from the U.S. to South Africa — centering artists as cultural theorists and change-makers. He’s authored or edited countless books, co-teaches Hip Hop with Chuck D, and co-leads the UCLA Hip Hop Initiative, bridging scholarship, culture, and community to reimagine education, activism, and global futures.
