Jelena Beočanin

Erasmus University Rotterdam

Jelena Beočanin is a PhD candidate and lecturer at Erasmus University Rotterdam’s History Department whose research merges Hip Hop, popular culture, and postcolonial studies. She investigates how Hip Hop culture, music, and dance shape emotional practices and modes of resistance in postcolonial contexts. Jelena’s approach integrates embodied ethnographic methods and oral history. Together with professor J. Griffith Rollefson, supported by a UNIC grant, she is incorporating and co-teaching modules from prof. Rollefson’s Planet Rap: Global Hip Hop and Postcolonial Perspectives course into EUR’s Arts and Culture Studies programmes. She is a member of the Rotterdam Popular Music Studies research centre.
