Joan Morgan

Joan Morgan — born in Jamaica and raised in New York City — is widely regarded for coining the term ‘Hip Hop feminism’ in her groundbreaking book “When Chickenheads Come Home to Roost”. Regarded internationally as an expert on the topics of Hip Hop, the Caribbean, and gender, Morgan has made numerous media appearances, for instance on MTV, CNN, The Breakfast Club and Netflix. Currently, she’s the director of the Center for Black Visual Culture at the NYU Institute of African American Affairs.
